Bike insurance policyholders planning to take part in the forthcoming Isle of Man TT races will be offered a special race card to help them in emergencies.
The so-called crash cards are already in use in Essex, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire after being launched by the East of England Ambulance Service and contain life-saving information such as medical conditions, contact details, date of birth and current medications being taken.
Created by the committee of the Ambulance Motorcycle Club, the cards will be launched on the Isle of Man on May 27th, in time for the TT races, which begin on May 29th and conclude on June 11th.
"Sometimes getting vital life-saving information is delayed either due to the level of consciousness of the injured riders or sometimes by language barriers," commented chief ambulance officer Steve Seiling.
The cards are fitted inside a rider's helmet and a sticker is applied on the exterior of the headgear so emergency workers know the card is inside.
Dawn Kneen, ambulance manager, said the cards are being rolled out to coincide with the TT event but will continue to be distributed throughout the rest of the year.
