BMW riders concerned their vehicles could be putting their bike insurance premiums at risk through faulty brakes may be among those who purchased a defective vehicle from the manufacturer.

The motorcycle maker has recalled 122,000 of its models across the globe on the grounds they may have potential problems with their brakes.

Affected machines include the K 1200 GT, R 1200 GS Adventure model, the R 1200 GS, the R 1200 R, the R 1200 RT and the R 1200 ST.

The models were made between August 2006 and May 2009 and buyers of the machines have been receiving letters explaining the problem and asking them to take the machines in to their dealer to be looked at.

According to the BBC, British riders have received correspondence suggesting affected bikes could have brake line leaks caused by vibrations, which in turn could result in loss of brake fluid and potential failure.

No accidents have been reported in connection with the issue.

Reuters reports that the same problem presented itself two years ago, when the same models were affected. Despite modifications, it would appear the fault has not yet been completely corrected.
