Police in Devon and Cornwall are set to increase awareness of road safety among motorcyclists in June.

Officers will hold a two-day event over June 27th and 28th in Barnstaple in which they will invite riders to attend and find out the basics of Roadcraft, the North Devon Gazette reports.

Activities over the days will include discussions and feedback on computer generated scenarios involving riders and a ride-out into the local countryside with police motorcyclists who will assess the bikers and provide them with helpful tips.

Bike insurance policyholders planning to take part will have to pay a fee of £25 and are asked to make sure their machines are fully roadworthy

Motorcycle police constable Paul White said that the courses are "a real eye opener for many and this is confirmed by the positive feedback we regularly receive".

He added that the initiative does not seek to stop riders enjoying their riding but to help them improve their skills and make rides more satisfying.

Meanwhile, the Gloucester Gazette reports that riders are being urged to ride with police officers at a special safety event at Castle Combe Race Circuit on June 5th.
