Businesses are being advised that now could be the best time to add motorcycles to their fleets.
A study by the Motor Cycle Industry (MCI) has highlighted that £940 million is generated in gross added value to the UK's economy through motorcycle support services like couriers and leasing.
According to the findings, the hire and leasing sector creates a turnover of about £38 million a year, while courier jobs are filled by around 20,000 motorcyclists with an annual turnover of almost £800 million.
Bike insurance policyholders who opt for courier jobs can provide urgent and safe delivery, often on the same day as items are ordered, the website suggests.
"Economic and practical factors mean that including a bike in modern business is a sensible option," the MCI's chief executive officer Steve Kenward said.
He went on to add that the value of bikes is being seen in a number of trades, from plumbers to the emergency services, while many businesses could enhance their potential by introducing motorcycles.
Company Club90 specialises in fleet motorcycle sales and has kitted out a number of Honda scooters to make them suitable for courier work, also adding companies' liveries to the exterior of models.
