Vehicle security device maker Tracker has revealed that it helped recover more than £50,000 worth of stolen bikes last year.

The firm is urging motorcyclists to follow a number of tips to enhance the security of their model, helping protect their machines from thieves and potential bike insurance claims.

Tracker comments that it has found low cost models just as likely to be a target for thieves as prestige machines, meaning all bikers could benefit from following guidelines to securing their models.

"We advise bike and scooter owners to make it difficult for thieves by using a range of different security options, including chains, immobilisers and markers," said Stephen Doran, managing director for Tracker.

He added that making use of security devices adds an extra layer of security and makes the model easy to trace should it be stolen.

It only takes a minute to ensure the model is chained up or stored in a garage, Mr Doran continued, providing peace of mind and guarding against unwanted expense and heartache.

Tracker systems are used by all 52 UK police forces and work like electronic homing devices, allowing vehicles to be traced even when the ignition has not been switched on.
