Motorcycle insurance policyholders who are big fans of Royal Enfield bikes may be able to snap up a model for themselves, after the company outlined plans to double production following strong demand.
After the release of the new Battle Green version of the Bullet Classic, which is powered by a 500cc fuel-injected engine, the Royal Enfield factory announced that it will increase production to keep up with sales of its new model line.
"Output is forecast to grow from 52,000 motorcycles this year to 70,000 units for 2011, reaching 90,000 in 2012 and finally 100,000 units or more by 2013," the company said.
The Battle Green Classic produces 28bhp with 41.3Nm of torque at 4,000rpm and boasts 18-inch wheels shod with Avon Road Rider tyres, which the firm believes help to deliver enhanced performance and handling, while cutting emissions and maintenance compared to earlier models.
Motorcycle insurance policyholders may already be aware that the Royal Enfield has an association with the Indian army that dates back to 1949. The British marque opened a factory in Chennai, India, that year, in order to manufacture the 350cc Bullet model for the Indian armed forces and continues to make bikes in the southern Indian area.
