The M25 has been named as the most depressing place to drive by motorcycle insurance policyholders and other road users.

Voters put the 119-mile London orbital road ahead of the Birmingham stretch of the M6 and London's A1 in a poll carried out by Motorcycle News.

Traffic jams, speed cameras, potholes and boredom were some of the factors used to determine the most dreary places to drive in Britain.

The survey of 3,000 motorists also revealed that almost three in five (59 per cent) road users find driving in the UK stressful or very stressful, the Telegraph reported.

Feeling tired or stressed out while riding can raise the risk of having to make a claim on the motorcycle insurance if an accident should occur.

Some 65 per cent of the respondents also claimed using the road has become more stressful in the last two years, said the newspaper.

Paul Watters of the AA gave the Express a few pointers for dealing with a long journey on a depressing road.

"De-stress yourself by not being tired, having the right music on in the car and leaving plenty of time for the journey. Then grin and bear it," he advised.
