Scotland gets its first speed camera bikes
Police in Scotland are being equipped for the first time with motorbikes fitted with speed cameras, the first of which is being operated in Edinburgh.
The specially designed Honda 650 Deauville with speed-scope camera and video will be used by Lothian and Borders officers to catch out speeding motorists on roads that are notorious accident hotspots and are inaccessible to speed camera vans.
Officers will park the motorcycle at selected sites and set up the camera, which can then be pointed at moving vehicles to detect the speed they are travelling at; any motorists who caught going too fast will later be informed of their indiscretion by post.

Chief constable Paddy Tomkins of Lothian and Borders Police commented: "The introduction of the motorbike is another great example of Lothian and Borders finding an innovative solution to a problem that needed attention.
"Speeding can have a very serious effect, not only can it result in loss of life, but also a loss of livelihood. The devastating impact that speeding can have should never be underestimated."
The introduction of the speed camera bikes augments Edinburgh's already meticulous traffic surveillance - Chief Constable Tomkins said the area is already served by four speed camera vans, 61 fixed camera sites and 25 red light camera sites.
