Harley-Davidson Museum construction underway

Construction has commenced on the new Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee that is set to become a place of pilgrimage for bike enthusiasts worldwide.

Work on the site opened on June 1st with a spectacular ceremony encompassing a dazzling display by renowned biker Scott Parker on a XL 883R Sportster motorcycle, described by company CEO Jim Ziemer as "a unique way for us to kick off the museum's construction".

Offering a haven for bike enthusiasts to both sample the company's history and to meet up and talk motorcycles, it is anticipated that the museum will attract around 350,000 visitors a year from both locally and abroad.

Museum director Stacey Watson commented: "The Harley-Davidson Museum will showcase the unforgettable collection of motorcycles and historical items from our company's vast archives.

"But even more importantly, it will celebrate the history of the company, the passion of the riders, and the stories of the employees, dealers, and suppliers. These varied and fascinating stories are woven into the fabric of Harley-Davidson, shaping the legend and setting the stage for a bright future."

Expected to open in 2008, the site covers an area of 130,000, taking in exhibition space and the company archives as well as a restaurant, cafe, shop, meeting space and special events facilities.

It will be uniquely situated in between the beautiful green spaces along the Menomonee river and Milwaukee's urban sprawl, providing a beautiful spot for bikers to gather while also staying true to Harley-Davidson's industrial tradition and legacy.
