Gibernau to miss out again in Brno?

Ducati rider Sete Gibernau could potentially miss out on the Czech GP in a month's time after discovering that he will require more surgery on his injured shoulder.

Gibernau fractured his collarbone when his bike flipped over during the Catalan GP and as a result had to have a titanium plate inserted into his shoulder, missing both the Dutch and British editions during his convalescence.

However, after finishing tenth in last weekend's American GP, a check-up on his return to his hometown of Barcelona revealed that the 33-year-old will need further surgery on his collarbone as an x-ray showed that there were problems with the inserted plate itself.

Two-time MotoGP runner-up Gibernau admitted after the US edition that it had been "one of those races which I just wanted to end because my shoulder wasn't good".

Looking ahead to the month-long break before the next race at Brno, he admitted that he would have little time for relaxing because he will have to "work very hard to get my physical condition back to where it should be" - and now his forthcoming operation will make the recuperation period even more hectic.

As the plate in Gibernau's shoulder has weakened, doctors will remedy the problem by tightening the main bolt in it, as well as injecting the rider with growth factors obtained from his own blood.

Surgeon Xavier Mir has said that he expects Gibernau to be fit to participate in the Czech race on August 20th, but this will not be confirmed until a further check-up on August 2nd.
