Police get on their bikes to combat mini motos

A police force has revealed that it intends to invest in an off-ride motorbike - in order to fight fire with fire and address the problems caused by mini motos in the local area.

Officers in Hull will be able to pursue nuisance mini moto riders through parks and other terrain which has prevented a police pursuit using other vehicles.

Council member for quality of life and community safety Kalvin Neal welcomed the plan, which forms part of Operation Espionage 2: "We want to reassure all those residents plagued by nuisance bikes that we are taking action to improve their quality of life.

"The police bike will not only be used by trained officers to monitor the situation but also to take action in extreme cases when riders are not willing to abide by the law."

He stressed that the illegal use of mini moto bikes caused noise problems and was dangerous both to the rider and to local Hull residents, as well having financial implications as accidents caused by the bikes may not be covered by motorbike insurance.

The Operation Espionage 2 campaign was launched earlier this month and is a joint initiative between Hull Citysafe, Humberside Police, the Northern Area Team and the Community Wardens.

More than 1,200 leaflets have been delivered to Hull homes to encourage locals to take action and report mini moto riders to police.
