Formidable Capirossi ready for Sepang challenge

Loris Capirossi is looking to continue his return to form at the Malaysian GP in Sepang, as he tries to make a late push for the title with another victory.

The Italian emerged triumphant just over a week ago in Brno, his first win since the opening race of the season and having won in Malaysia last year he has already been earmarked by championship rival Valentino Rossi as a potential victor there this weekend.

Though reticent to discuss his title chances, Capirossi feels the track at Sepang suits him well and ahead of this weekend's race he is clearly relishing the opportunity to ride there again.

He explained: "We had a great weekend there last year - pole position and the race win - so we will try very hard to do the same again.

"I like Sepang very much, it's a great layout, very wide and with some fast corners, so it's a lovely circuit to ride and great for fighting. Of course, the weather is very hot but I don't mind riding in the heat, that's what why we train so hard."

He was less carefree about the matter of his tyres however and affirmed that he and his colleagues at Ducati will have to work hard with Bridgestone to ensure they select the right ones for this particular race.

The 33-year-old is currently fifth in the overall standings, 50 points behind leader Nicky Hayden and is still in with an outside chance of surpassing the American and winning his first major title since the 250cc championship back in 1998.
