Biker weds from hospital bed

A Scottish biker injured badly in a road accident has recovered sufficiently to marry his fiancee from his hospital bed next week.

Montrose-born Leigh Walker sustained severe injuries after his Kawasaki bike crashed into a Mercedes on the A90, including a fractured pelvis and shinbone, leaving doctors unsure of whether he will ever regain the use of his legs.

The 49-year-old's partner and fellow motorcycling enthusiast Felicity Mayman travelled all the way from her Somerset home to visit him at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and it is there that the couple will now exchange their vows.

She told BBC News: "Where we are getting married does not matter at all - it is the fact we are making the commitment to each other.

"He told me that he did not want to lose me and asked if I wanted to get married now."

It was their love of motorcycles that brought the two together: they met on a biking website back in January before getting engaged over Easter.

They will now be wed by hospital chaplain James Falconer on October 16th, after which Mr Walker will be transferred to the spinal injuries unit of the Southern General hospital in Glasgow, where he will continue his convalescence.
