Harleys selling big worldwide

Global sales of Harley Davidson motorcycles rose considerably over the third quarter of this year, accelerating at a far greater rate than that of its US-only sales.

New figures from the bike manufacturer show that sales outside its native US rose by 18.7 per cent over the previous three months, contributing enormously to its surprisingly large profit increase of 18 per cent.

This international performance was considerably better than its US sales, which grew by a relatively slow 6.7 per cent, according to Associated Press reports, resulting in an 8.9 per cent increase in global sales, while shipments also rose by 10.8 per cent.

CEO Jim Ziemer commented: "This demonstrates our brand translates well in many different cultures."

He added: "We need to go out there and continue to come out with new and exciting things all the time so that the competition is always two years behind us."

The company's total income reached $312.7 million at the end of September, while its revenue also increased by 14 per cent to $1.64 billion.

Breaking the figures down showed a phenomenal increase of nearly a third in Harley Davidson's Canadian sales, while in Japan sales went up by 13 per cent and in Europe they rose by nearly ten per cent.
