No regrets for Capirossi

Loris Capirossi insists that he is not bitter about the crash that cost him a genuine shot at the MotoGP title and is continuing to concentrate on the future.

The veteran enjoyed a great start to the year, winning the opening race and making the podium on three of the next five occasions, but his season was derailed by a collision in the Catalan GP after which he dropped rapidly down the table.

Capirossi rallied with two wins in the last five races and still had a mathematical chance of winning the title until a poor result in Portugal last weekend, but despite these many highs and lows, the Italian is refusing to dwell on what might have been.

He commented: "Looking at the year overall, we've had some great moments and some bad moments. I think the big first-turn crash at Barcelona lost us the chance of winning the title, but I don't think about it any more, I think only of the present and of the future.

"I understand that this is the correct attitude because I have been racing in GPs for 17 years and during those years I have made many mistakes, but you must always move on, don't dwell on the past."

Looking forward to the season's finale at Valencia, Capirossi said that he hopes to challenge for the podium but admitted that it will be tough on a "very strange" racetrack that he does not find ideally suited to this category of bike racing.

The Ducati rider is currently fourth but could achieve a personal MotoGP best and come third overall should he be able to finish ahead of Marco Melandri and Dani Pedrosa, who are currently eight points ahead of and seven points behind him respectively.
