Rossi to rally for British test

Valentino Rossi is looking to continue his sideline in racing on four wheels and admits that rallying could be an even bigger part of his future when he retires from MotoGP.

Rossi has stated that he will be participating in next year's Rally of Great Britain, the race he last took part in back in 2002 when he crashed out after just 17 kilometres and fled home without speaking to the press.

However, the British-based racer has enjoyed a fine restart to his rallying career that he claimed has given him renewed confidence in this competition and he has divulged that he could see himself one day making it a more long-term arrangement.

He told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper: "Yes, this could be my future after motorcycling.

"Formula One would be within my reach too but I have had my chance and made another choice. Rallies could be a good solution. Not for the entire season, but maybe a programme of eight races."

The Italian's record in his country of residence is generally excellent, with nine podium finishes and seven wins in eleven years of top class racing and he will be hoping to emulate this level of performance in next year's British rally.

Rossi is currently in a rich vein of form in both formats, winning the Monza rally last weekend and then giving an excellent showing when he tried out Yamaha's new 800cc bike on the Jerez track in Spain.
