Hayden also impressed by Pedrosa progress
MotoGP winner Nicky Hayden has admitted that his Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa will also be one of his toughest rivals in the battle to defend his title next season.
Pedrosa was the fastest rider during a recent three-day test at Jerez, with a best lap of just under one minute 40 seconds on the track where he had performed so maturely to help Hayden clinch the championship back in the autumn.
Hayden himself missed the session after needing surgery on his injured shoulder, but the American voiced his admiration for his young colleague and warned that he will be an even bigger threat on the lower specification 800cc bikes that they will ride next year.

The 25-year-old explained to Motor Cycle News: "I'm sure his size will help him and Dani's going go get along with it better because it's more like a 250[cc bike] and I know I'm probably going to need to drop a few more kilos.
"The bike is quite small and just to suit it probably wouldn't hurt but I'm sure he's going to be tough to beat."
Although he faded in the second half of the season and almost cost Hayden the title when they collided in Portugal, Pedrosa made a good start to his MotoGP career and as well as a fifth placed final finish, he was also awarded the title of Rookie of the Year.
His performances in 2006 have earned the praise of Yamaha's Valentino Rossi as well, who described Pedrosa as "already one of the best and strongest rivals" in the competition while also voicing the opinion that he is well suited to 800cc racing.
