Vermeulen signals intent for 2007
After posting excellent results during recent testing, Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen says he feels well suited to the new bike specifications that will be used in MotoGP next season.
The young Australian was in top form on his new 800cc as he finished fourth overall in the run through at Jerez in Spain, although his position may have been artificially high as he opted to use race tyres throughout while the other riders switched to practice ones.
Nonetheless, having beaten his own lap record on this course, as well as coming within 0.2 seconds of surpassing the overall record set by Valentino Rossi, Vermeulen recently told the Australian newspaper that he is thoroughly enjoying the new format.

He explained: "I think if I got on a 990 now I'd be thinking, 'Jeez, this thing is way too fast for me'.
"I feel like I'm riding the 800 more and more like it should be ridden and I'm becoming more of an 800 GP rider."
His performances at Jerez certainly impressed Rossi for one, with the Italian noting the pace of both Vermeulen and the new Suzuki bike, adding "it is strange, they are faster with 800cc than with 1000cc".
The 24-year-old came 11th in what was his first full season in MotoGP, making the podium while racing on home soil in the Australian GP and if his current form is anything to go by, he will be challenging for a few more top three finishes next year as well.
