Ellison happy to chase American dream

James Ellison is looking forward to racing in the US Superbikes competition and claims that he underachieved in MotoGP because of a lack of support from his team.

The British rider put down his struggles this season to the new chassis he was handed by Yamaha and says that while his teammates Valentino Rossi, Colin Edwards and Carlos Checa were all eventually handed an improved version, he was not.

In an interview with superbikeplanet.com, Ellison claimed that the manufacturer was disinclined to spend money remodelling his bike to fit a new chassis and was therefore happy simply to let him take the blame for the resulting poor performances.

Reflecting on his switch to American Superbikes with Honda, the 26-year-old explained: "The whole package just seemed like this is something I can get on and there's no excuses now.

"If I go slow, then it's me. So it's more of a personal thing for me - that I want to go out there and get some results."

Ellison did add that his overall experience of MotoGP racing was "good" and that he was perfectly happy when using the old 2005 model of chassis, but claimed that this year's version made it far harder for him to take corners.

His second full season in the competition saw him come a lowly 18th and he only managed a top ten finish once, when he came ninth in the accident-strewn Catalan GP.
