MCI wants safe driving taught at early age
The Motor Cycle Industry (MCI) has welcomed the Department for Transport's (DfT's) proposal for the basic principles of safety behind the wheel to be taught in schools.
New government plans advocate that youths be instilled with a responsible attitude to driving as part of the curriculum, requiring that they take a necessary amount of training and that their progress is closely monitored.
This scheme has earned the vociferous support of the MCI, which agrees with the DfT's judgement that there is much to be gained by all road users if people are educated in the values of sensible motoring from a very early age, Insidebikes reports.

Director of public affairs Craig Carey-Clinch explained: "The MCI supports initiatives that help to make roads safer and young people more aware of the risks.
"The more that can be done to educate all road users can only help to make the roads safer for motorbike and scooter riders too."
He also reiterated the MCI's own continuing devotion to this cause, with the organisation itself heavily involved in road safety instruction, having produced a number of educational resources on the issue for usage in schools.
The DfT's proposal follows the emergence of statistics showing that newly qualified male motorists are nearly ten times as likely to sustain a serious or even fatal injury while driving than those aged between 40 and 59.
