Biker premiums vary according to circumstance
Motorcyclists could reduce their premiums by taking steps to improve their riding, an expert has claimed, but there are many other factors that can affect their insurance costs.
Charlotte Lidster, a spokesperson for the AA, explained that there are numerous courses available to bikers that could persuade some insurers to offer them a discount on their policy.
Nevertheless, she warned that there are numerous other matters that insurance providers will take into consideration, such as the biker's age, their experience, the model of bike they ride and the area that they use it in.

Ms Lidster explained: "It works the same as any other insurance really, which is based on claims history and the higher risk area you are in or the higher risk factor you are, then the more expensive your premium will be."
Direct Line spokeswoman Emma Holyer has echoed this opinion, explaining that whereas urban riders pay higher premiums because of the greater threat of theft, rural bikers face far lower costs.
However, Ms Lidster stated that the incidence of road accidents in a motorcyclist's area should not affect their policy, as bike insurers would not go as far as to monitor exactly where they ride, although she admitted that new technology could change this.
