BMF hoping for positive TfL decision
The British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) is hoping that Transport for London (TfL) will continue to allow bikers to ride in bus lanes, despite its doubts on the issue.
Last autumn TfL commented that trial motorcyclist usage of bus lanes had produced inconclusive and even slightly negative results - a conclusion that the BMF criticised and put down to the overly complex method of analysis used.
However, with TfL having now appointed a motorcyclist to review its draft study on biker bus lane usage, the BMF believes that a positive outcome is still possible in the final report.

Senior executive Trevor Magner explained: "Since assessment solely on the basis of safety remains inconclusive, greater consideration of the effect on traffic efficiency and the benefits of increased motorcycle use should be given and we're pleased that TfL now appears to be addressing the concerns of the motorcycling community and we hope that the review may result in a more positive outcome for motorcycling."
The organisation felt that with the statistical figures being so small and the methodology used so complicated that any negative findings were therefore insignificant, as well as that other factors had been unwisely ignored.
However, a TfL dossier leaked to Motor Cycle News last month allegedly claimed that despite contrasting findings, the effect of the trial on road safety was on the whole slightly negative and a lack of public support for the scheme remains a major barrier.
