Police give mini-motos a chance
Mini-motos are often associated with antisocial behaviour, but officers in Cumbria are hoping to give enthusiasts the chance to ride theirs without getting into trouble.
Police in Workington have raised £3,000 in order to set up a club for miniature bike riders and having secured land for the project from the local council, they are now hoping to train a number of enthusiasts to run the organisation on a day-to-day basis.
There have been concerns raised recently about the illegal use of these vehicles in this area and the threat posed to both their riders and to local residents, so it is hoped that this club will lure youngsters to partake in this pastime in more controlled surroundings.

Constable Richard Smiley explained: "I empathise with people who ride bikes as a hobby and this is about educating people, not punishing them.
"We want to stop antisocial bike-riding and give people a chance to ride in a safe environment, where they won't cause any trouble."
The Motor Cycle Industry (MCI) and a number of police forces issued warnings to parents prior to Christmas about the imprudence of buying their kids mini-bikes unless there is somewhere nearby that they can practice safely and legally.
However, the MCI has also campaigned frequently over the past year for the government to also play its part and designate more sites for mini-moto use, rather than merely clamping down on antisocial riders.
