Bikes selling like hotcakes
Motorcycle sales were on the up in January, according to new figures from the Motor Cycle Industry (MCI), with increased registrations for several types of bike.
The total number of two-wheelers registered last month rose by six per cent year-on-year, with motorcycle sales increasing by six per cent during this time, while moped sales rose by four per cent and scooters by an impressive 11 per cent.
Adventure sport motorcycles experienced a particularly strong month, shooting up by nearly fifty per cent from the same month in 2006, insidebikes.com reports, while Japanese bikes dominated the list of most popular models.

MCI director of public affairs Craig Carey-Clinch commented: "Now is a time of change for the motorcycle industry and the MCI will be focussing on reducing the negative effects of legislation and at the same time working in partnership to attract new blood into the world of motorcycling."
He warned that, while January's sales figures marked a positive start to 2007, there was no room for motorcycle manufacturers and sellers to become complacent if they wanted to continue performing well in the face of some adverse circumstances.
Nonetheless, it has been a positive start to the year for the motor industry, with figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showing that January also saw sales growth for cars and light commercial vehicles.
