BMF: Avoid road pricing, start motorcycling
People concerned about congestion charging and road pricing hindering their mobility should start using a motorbike, according to the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF).
The organisation believes that the role motorcycling can play in reducing congestion and increasing transport options has been ignored so far in the furious debate over the possible future introduction of road pricing.
It has now called on the government to increase the motorbike's role in its national transport strategy by exempting it from any future pay-as-you-drive schemes, as well as to take other steps such as giving riders full access to bus lanes.

BMF senior government relations executive Trevor Magner commented: "This is not just a matter of avoiding charges, but a realistic alternative for those seeking personal mobility where public transport does not serve their needs and cycling or walking are not viable options."
The BMF believes that the basic flaw in current government proposals is that they fail to offer people incentives to switch to preferable forms of travel such as motorcycling, which it argues also causes fewer emissions.
Moreover, it has called on the public to support an online petition on the Ten Downing Street website asking that motorbikes be excluded from future road pricing initiatives, which has already attained over a thousand signatures at time of writing.
