Speed limiters considered for bikes
MPs are calling for research to be conducted into the viability of fitting motorbikes with speed limiters in order to reduce accidents.
The Commons transport committee has told the government it considers "radical action" appropriate to bring down accident rates.
A study into the possible uses of speed restrictors should be undertaken, the committee said, to "stimulate a sensible debate of the options".
As well as targeting accidents, the committee hopes that such a move would have an effect on the environmental impact of motorcycles on the road.

Such proposals are unlikely to be well-received by many bikers, although the industry as a whole may be more pleased to learn that the committee has also urged the government to crack down on mini-motos.
"We recommend that the government undertake a review of enforcement against mini-motos to gauge whether police blitzes work to reduce anti-social behaviour in the longer term," the MPs said.
They proposed that should further action be required, a restriction on mini-moto imports could be considered.
A response to the MPs plans on motorcycle website Visordown said that bikers as a whole should not be punished because of a minority of irresponsible mini-moto riders.
"MPs need to target their attention and their message to ill-informed parents who are buying these cheap death-traps, with no regard to their child's safety and back-up the police who clearly cannot contain the problem," it said.
