MCI has mixed feelings about review findings
A Transport Select Committee (TSC) review of the government's motorcycling strategy has drawn a mixed response from the Motor Cycle Industry (MCI).
The MCI was pleased that the TSC shared the government's endorsement of the motorbike as a promising mode of transport and was equally enamoured with its positive stance towards biker bus lane usage.
Yet the Industry was also critical of a number of the Committee's other suggestions, claiming that its calls for improved safety and reduced emissions from motorcycling both stem from its failure to grasp the complex realities of these issues.

Director of public affairs Craig Carey-Clinch explained that he and his colleagues at the MCI "are concerned about the TSC's lack of in-depth understanding of the [powered two-wheeler] environmental and safety situation and feel that the report is in danger of creating an inaccurate and distorted view of motorcycling among decision makers".
The TSC's support for off-road bike registration trials drew an equally scathing response from the MCI, especially given its recognition that most agencies, including the police, are opposed to such a measure being introduced.
Back in February, the Industry voiced its opposition to a proposed bill that would make it mandatory for all off-road vehicles to be registered, claiming that such a scheme would be overly bureaucratic and costly to implement.
