BMF warns again against off-road registration bill
The British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) has once more renounced a proposed bill that would make it mandatory for all off-road vehicles to be registered.
Put forward by MP Graham Stringer, with the aim of facilitating a crackdown on mini-moto owners who illegally ride their bikes in public spaces, this bill has now completed its second reading in Parliament and is about to enter its committee stage.
This proposed legislation has not convinced the BMF however, which says that antisocial bikers will not be forced to change their ways unless policing is improved and so the only people this scheme would penalise are law-abiding off-road sports participants.

Senior government relations executive Trevor Magner commented: "This is another example of an MP seeking to make a name for himself by using public concerns about mini-motos to move legislation which is superfluous, will be ineffective in addressing the problem, discriminatory against motorcycling and likely to cause hardship for legitimate off-road users.
"It should be treated with the contempt it deserves and rejected."
In order to prevent this bill going through, the BMF is urging motorcyclists to demonstrate their antipathy towards it by signing a petition to the prime minister on the issue, as well as by contacting their own local MP to voice their complaints.
Mr Stringer's bill has also been criticised by the Motor Cycle Industry and the Motorcycle Action Group, although it has the backing of the Greater Manchester Police Authority, who have responsibility for the MP's constituency of Manchester Blackley.
