NFU speaks out against new motorbike rules
The National Farmers Union (NFU) has teamed up with a new coalition against a Road Registration Bill, claiming that it would have unintended consequences for all terrain vehicles (ATVs).
The parliamentary private members bill is looking to change the law to force owners of all off road motorcycles and quadricycles to register them and carry number plates.
However, the NFU claims that the bill could have an unwarranted effect on vehicles used for agricultural purposes by farmers and landowners, as well as affecting motor racing activities.

Proposed by MP Graham Singer, the new bill is a response to public concern about the illegal use of motorcycles and safety fears over cheap imported mini motos and other vehicles. It has recently received its second reading in parliament and campaigners now want to see it rejected or significantly amended at its third reading.
The coalition group, which includes the NFU, the Motor Cycle Industry Association, the RAC Foundation and the Land Access and Recreational Association, wants the bill blocked in favour of tighter enforcement campaigns against illegal motorcycling.
The Home Office, industry organisations and the police have all launched high profile campaigns against illegal and dangerous use of off road motorcycles, with some campaigns resulting in an 80 per cent fall in public complaints.
