Rossi feels like China's in his hands
Valentino Rossi knows that his MotoGP record in China is inconsistent, but the Italian is nonetheless aiming for a top finish there this weekend to get his season back on track.
Having started the race at the top of the table, Rossi was going well in second in the recent Turkish GP until he was stricken with a rear tyre problem that saw him eventually limp into tenth place and lose the overall leadership to Ducati's Casey Stoner.
The Yamaha man has by his own admission experienced mixed fortunes in the Chinese GP, having won the first ever edition in 2005 and then failed to finish the race last season, but he is determined to make the podium this time around.

He commented: "We had a good test on Monday and tried a lot of new tyre combinations with China in mind, so we are going there with some ideas about what we think will work.
"Now it's a case of making what is hopefully the right tyre choice and then seeing how things go on Friday morning."
Rossi quipped that they might have to split the track in two, giving one lane to the Ducatis and another to the rest, but the joke masked genuine concern over whether his Yamaha has the necessary top speed to compete on the Shanghai track's long straight.
Perhaps he should demand a third lane for Tony Elias: the swashbuckling Spaniard has vowed not to change his racing style, despite complaints from Rossi after the Turkish GP that his aggressive manner of passing is "dangerous" and "not the correct way to race".
