Stoner tightens grip in Shanghai
Casey Stoner has extended his lead over Valentino Rossi at the top of the MotoGP table after winning the duel against his more experienced rival in the Chinese GP last weekend.
Although Marco Melandri and John Hopkins both challenged at times, the race eventually became a battle between the current top two, with Rossi's bike faring better over the course's winding sections, while Stoner's was much faster on its main straight.
With six laps to go, an error by the Italian let the Ducati rider put space between himself and the chasing pack and from then on there was no catching him as he sped onto victory and a 15 point advantage at the top of the overall standings.

The young Australian afterwards expressed his own disbelief at his excellent start to the 2007, admitting: "If last year someone had told me that at this point of the season I would have won three races, I would have laughed!"
He concluded: "It was another fantastic race, like Qatar and Turkey, but we aren't changing our way of thinking. We are working hard, taking it race by race and doing our best every time."
Rossi was not too disappointed to finish second, highlighting the fact that Shanghai is not one of his favourite circuits and that there are many races that suit him far better still to come this season.
Next up is the French GP in which the Yamaha man indeed has the better record, with seven top three finishes in 11 races there, compared to Stoner's failure to make the podium in five attempts.
