Environmental group hits out at government over quad tests
Government claims that new restrictions may need to be introduced on quadriciycle usage have been rejected as unjust by an environmental transport consultancy.
The Department for Transport (DfT) recently announced that quadricylces do not measure up to the safety requirements stipulated for cars, which it feels is problematic given their increasing prominence on the UK's urban roads.
However, Aardvark Associates has retorted that the DfT tested the vehicle's safety on impact at speeds that it rarely reaches, while rejecting suggestions that EU regulations on quadricycles are no longer relevant.

The organisation scoffed: "If there is no support for the quadricycle and the case against it is one of safety, then perhaps it is time we all took to the streets in armoured cars on the basis that they are much safer when involved in a collision with another vehicle."
Aardvark Associates finds the government's stance even more unforgivable because of the environmental benefits that the quadricycle offers, as well as the negligible contribution that it makes to congestion.
It hinted that vested interests could be at work, accusing the motor industry of looking to maintain the hegemony of its high-emission vehicles and the government of seeking to protect its revenues.
