New site gives safety tips to riders

A new website has been launched with the aim of encouraging motorcyclists to hone their riding skills and thereby reduce the chance of their being involved in a crash.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Advanced Drivers and Riders site contains advice for both novice and advanced motorcyclists on how they can improve their riding skills and stay safe on the road.

It informs them of how to become a member of an RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders group, as well as extolling the benefits of taking an advanced test and offering assistance for riders preparing to do so.

Development officer Emma Middleton warned: "It is all too easy to develop poor driving or riding habits without realising.

"For this reason, RoSPA encourages all road users to consider some kind of refresher training."

RoSPA is particularly concerned by the number of dangerous mistakes being made on the UK's roads, with two thirds of accidents partly caused by a simple error, while over a quarter stemmed from driving or riding in the incorrect manner.

The launch of its new website may have come at the perfect time, with the Motor Cycle Industry anticipating a rise in the number of people taking the motorcycle test ahead of the implementation of the second European driving licensing directive next year.
