Stoner extends lead as rain comes down
Casey Stoner romped to a comprehensive victory in a soaked British GP last weekend, extending his lead at the top of the MotoGP standings in the process.
After enduring a poor start as the rain steadily came down at Donnington, the Ducati rider rallied to first overcome initial leader Dani Pedrosa and then eventually burst clear of Colin Edwards to win by a full 12 seconds in the end.
Having initially expected this race to be a damage limitation exercise on a track where Valentino Rossi has traditionally excelled, the Italian's lacklustre fourth-place finish enabled a delighted Stoner to widen the gap between them to 26 points.

He reflected afterwards: "I'm not looking at the championship yet, I'm just enjoying all these races whether I win or don't finish on the podium.
"It's just nice to be out there, I've got the confidence in myself and in the bike to really get involved in the race and really enjoy it."
The young Australian also claimed that this result disproved claims that his Ducati's success owed purely to its speed advantage, describing it as "the best bike out there" on the day and warning that there are now no obvious weaknesses in its make-up.
Next up for Stoner is this weekend's Dutch GP - a race in which he managed fourth place on his debut MotoGP appearance there last season, as well as a podium finish in the 125cc class back in 2004.
