Government approach to motorcycling earns MAG's praise
The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) has backed the government over its rebuttal of numerous criticisms made in a recent report on its motorcycling strategy.
Back in April, the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee (TSC) released the findings of its review into government policy on motorcycling, in which it forwarded a number of suggestions that failed to impress MAG.
Therefore, the group was heartened when the government not only restated its support for the motorbike as a means of transport, but also rebuffed the TSC's claims that rider fatalities are too high, pointing instead to the reductions that have already been made.
MAG campaigns manager David Short commented: "The government's response to the Transport Select Committee's recommendations is an excellent result for motorcycling.

"It vindicates the contributions made by everyone who gave evidence at the Transport Select Committee hearings."
Government rejection of the TSC's assertion that motorcycle emissions are too high was also welcomed by MAG, as was its announcement that it would not be acting on the committee's proposal that speed control systems should be installed on bikes.
Furthermore, MAG also agreed with the government's dismissal of the TSC's call for all off-road bikes to be compulsorily registered, on the grounds that existing measures for dealing with antisocial mini-moto use are already adequate.
