Police announce successful nuisance biker crackdown
Officers in Northamptonshire have effectively reduced the number of incidents of antisocial motorcycle usage in a district previously known as a hotspot for this problem.
Prior to the establishment of a safer community team (SCT) for these areas, there were 214 cases of reported motorcycle nuisance in Delapre, Briar Hill, Far Cotton and Camp Hill between April and June 2005.
Since this April, the SCT has overseen a 70 per cent decrease in the number of instances of antisocial riding through conducting frequent patrols in the region, while also seizing 22 offending bikes and issuing 23 further warnings to potential nuisance bikers.

PC Paul Hollands commented: "People who live in this area have told us that motorcycle nuisance is one of the main issues that concerns them and we have made it a priority and put a lot of effort into targeting the people and the areas that cause the problems.
"I'm pleased to say that we are having some good successes and, on one weekend this month, we received no calls about motorcycle nuisance at all, which is very unusual but really positive for local residents."
It is the success of initiatives such as this that has persuaded the government to rebuff the recent call by the Parliamentary Transport Select Committee (TSC) to introduce mandatory registration for all off-road bikes.
Both the government and organisations representing riders' rights, such as the Motorcycle Action Group, believe that the TSC's proposal is unnecessary because of additional powers already afforded to police to combat antisocial riders.
