Squads advertise virtues of riding to work
Groups of riders are to teach other road users this week about the advantages of commuting by motorbike, the Motor Cycle Industry (MCI) has announced.
July 18th is Ride to Work Day and specially chosen squads of bikers are to mark the occasion by taking to the roads with slogans such as 'Stuck in another jam?' and 'I'll be home before you' emblazoned on high visibility vests.
They will be a notable presence in major cities such as London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow, in a move intended to encourage more people to take up motorcycling ahead of the introduction of the second European driving license directive next year.

MCI's Craig Carey-Clinch commented: "We recently commissioned a piece of research which highlighted the amount of time and money that people in this country waste driving to work in cars every day.
"The research also revealed that a fifth of British people are jealous of the motorcyclists who pass them in commuter traffic every day. The idea today is to persuade them that rather than sitting in traffic feeling jealous, they should take their bike test and join them!"
The difficulties faced by some commuters in getting to work were highlighted in a recent study by the RAC Foundation, which found that one in ten drivers spend at least two hours travelling to and from work each day.
By contrast, further research from the RAC found that motorcyclists have shorter journey times than motorists in almost every region in the UK, with the difference particularly pronounced in central London and the east of England.
