MAG impressed by Scotch stance on motorcycling
According to MAG, the Executive's new Guidance for Local Authorities document underlines its recognition of the benefits that the motorbike can offer in reducing congestion and emissions and will have positive effects for riders throughout Scotland.
This guide encourages councils to recognise the needs of bikers in matters such as safety policy and access to bus lanes, as well as to use forums to canvass motorcyclists' opinions when developing transport strategy.
MAG campaigns director David Short announced: "This is a tremendous step forward for motorcyclists and the Scottish Executive should be congratulated on their innovative approach to ensure that motorcyclists are where they should be, fully integrated, fully consulted with and working in partnership with those tasked with formulating transport policy."
Bike Insurance - Fantastic quotes!
His comments follow MAG's recent endorsement of the government for its reiteration of its support for motorcycling as a means of transport and its rebuttal of several restrictive proposals made by Parliament's Transport Select Committee.
The positive social impact that the motorbike can have was also upheld in a study by the RAC Foundation back in June, which showed that riders face shorter journey times than drivers in most parts of the UK.
