Police crack down on mini motos
Mini-moto menaces have been warned by police forces that they will be subject to renewed efforts to crack down on what, for many, has become the biggest scourge on the roads.
Local police forces across East Durham and Norfolk are stepping up efforts amid continued complaints pertaining to nuisance mini-motos, despite the fact that those caught using the lightweight vehicles on roads can have them confiscated and destroyed.
In Durham, specially trained officers will be patrolling residential areas on their own motorcycles, cautioning troublemakers and targeting all motorcycle users who do not have the appropriate safety gear and documentation in place.

Raids will also be made on some of the region's worst hotspots to reduce trouble. Banned riders caught using mini-motos will be liable to face court prosecution and a potential prison term.
PC John Bowman, one of the officers trained for patrol, told local news sources: "I would never advise anyone against buying a motorcycle because you can have a good time, but it should be used responsibly on private land with the owner's permission and with parental supervision."
Meanwhile, Norfolk Police have established a special team to clamp down on riders flaunting the rules and using the mini-motorcycles on public roads.
With existing rules and prior seizures failing to curb the number of youngsters using their motorcycles on the roads, more local police forces may be forced to take more drastic measures.
