Donington delays 'may see riders risk bike insurance'

Those looking to ride down to Donington Park for the British Superbike Championship this weekend may be risking their bike insurance.

Car drivers on the M1 from Friday September 21st to Sunday September 23rd 2007 have been told by the Highways Agency (HA): "Be alert for motorcyclists using the roads."

A collision with another motorway vehicle may see people risking their motorcycle insurance policies as well as their lives.

Officials at the HA have also told road users to pack "plenty of water and refreshments" should they be caught up in the increased volume of traffic expected.

The group said: "The HA advises those attending and traveling in the area to allow extra time for their journey and be alert for motorcyclists using the roads."

Donington Park will host the Superbike Championship this weekend but is primarily known for its MotoGP credentials.

Additionally, the racing circuit has hosted Formula 3, British Touring Car races and Le Mans events since it was opened in 1931.

The site is located on the border of Leicestershire and Derbyshire and can also be reached via the M42 and A50 roads.
