Speeding drivers caught out by schoolchildren

People flouting the speed limit on roads in Yorkshire were targeted by police in the area as well as schoolchildren, it has been reported.

The Halifax Courier has reported that pupils at Holy Trinity Primary School in Halifax took to the streets to assist officers in recording speeds and tracking those driving dangerously.

Road users who are found by the little officers to be acting illegally may find that their car, van or bike insurance policies become compromised as a result.

This is because cover companies will often be reluctant to offer a cheap deal to those who have picked up motoring convictions in the past.

Elizabeth McCann, deputy headteacher at the school, outlined the dangers faced by children using the highways in the region.

She said: "Every day 17 children under six are injured on the roads and at least one child in this age range dies every two weeks."

Last month, a similar project was launched by police officers in conjunction with a school in Essex.

Pupils at Katherine's School in Harlow assisted officials in tracking rogue drivers.
