Driver awareness course offered to speeders
Those who break the law by exceeding the speed limit are being given the chance to avoid paying fines and picking up licence points, it has been reported.
According to the Southern Daily Echo, officials in Hampshire are offering those caught out the chance to take a driver awareness course rather than a £60 fine and three-point penalty.
Police officers in the region are hoping that the £74 class opens motorists' eyes to the dangers hazardous road use can cause.
Statistics from the Department for Transport (DfT) show that there were 3,150 deaths on highways in the UK over the course of 2006.

Furthermore, a conviction on the road could result in drivers paying more for their bike insurance policy next time they come to renew.
This is because cover companies rarely offer cheaper deals to those who have a history of poor road behavior.
Earlier this year, the DfT took the step of introducing increased legislation against those found to be using a mobile phone while driving a car.
Motorists caught out can now pick up a £60 fine in addition to a three-point licence penalty for the crime.
