Operation Vortex catches over 400 speeders

Those who choose to break the speed limit were targeted by officers in Devon and Cornwall as part of a police crackdown, a local news provider has commented.

Authorities found some 425 motorists in violation of the speed limit over the course of November as part of the Operation Vortex scheme.

Constabulary officials also found 32 people travelling at over 100 mph, it added.

As well as being dangerous and risking lives, such an act could have a serious effect on a car or bike insurance policy, as cover firms will often formulate the cost of deals based on road users' previous history of offences.

Inspector Richard Pryce from the force's roads police unit stated that those breaking the law are behaving in an "unacceptable" way.

"It is clear from Operation Vortex that some motorists continue to adopt a complacent and even arrogant approach to road safety," said the official.

Meanwhile, official government statistics show that there were some 3,150 motorists in the UK killed on the road over the course of 2006.

One year earlier, there were 3,201 deaths nationwide.
