Motorists warned of highways fuel risk
A new initiative has been launched with the intention of cutting the number of motorists caught without petrol in the north of England, it has been reported.
The Highways Agency is hoping that drivers in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cumbria, Cheshire and Merseyside will make sure they fill up accordingly as a result, according to the Blackpool Gazette.
It may be that those who run out of fuel while driving leave themselves open to collisions and accidents on the road - something which can have a serious affect on the cost of car insurance.
This is because some firms will charge motorists based on their recent road history and whether they judge them to be a risk.
Motorcycle Insurance - Great quotes!
Highways Agency figures show that 2,333 people in the north of England ran out of fuel on highways this year up to October, while nationwide some 10,225 such incidents were reported.
Earlier this year supermarket giant Tesco issued a double-page national newspaper apology to motorists in the south of England who filled their vehicles up with contaminated fuel.
The company said that it would pay for any damage done to vehicles.
