Motorists 'may receive speeding fine refunds'
A number of motorists fined for travelling on a stretch of road with no legally enforced speed limit could be refunded this week, it has been reported.
The Southern Daily Echo states that 12 cases in Hampshire are to be re-examined by officials after drivers made claims against the offences, which occurred after they were judged to be breaking 40 mph on a stretch of the A27.
If they decide that the motorists should be given the funds back, it may be that thousands of people feel that they too could be given refunds, the news source added.
Motorbike Insurance - Great quotes!
"They are arguing a point of law that if successful, could open the floodgates and allow other motorists to appeal against their fixed penalty notices," Barry Culshaw, the man representing the drivers, told the newspaper.
People who pick up speeding offences can often have a difficult time getting cheap car and bike insurance policies if cover firms judge that they are a road risk.
This week, boxer Amir Khan was banned from the road when he was found to be travelling on the M62 at more than 140 mph.
