Jail may be skipped by road killers without insurance
Drivers who take to the road in the UK without insurance may not go to jail if they end up killing someone, according to new rules from a prison body.
The Sentencing Guidelines Council has revealed that those who do not have cover may not receive a term behind bars unless officials find aggravating factors, the Telegraph reports.
A car or bike insurance policy is an essential for those taking to the road and not taking out a deal can result in a fine or a three-point licence penalty.

This new rule may give motorists the wrong impression, commented road safety charity Brake spokesperson Sarah Fatica.
She said: "These guidelines send out a terrible message to drivers that you can drive badly and cause a death, yet receive only a slap on the wrist."
Meanwhile, statistics from the Department for Transport show that some 3,150 people were killed in accidents on roads in the UK during 2006.
