Officer speaks out against "completely irresponsible" motorists
A Dorset police official has criticised motorists who take to the road without sufficient cover, it has been reported.
Some 150,000 automobiles were seized nationwide by officials over the course of 2007 - 50 per cent of cases involving people under 29, according to the Dorset Echo.
It added that 2,000 people in Dorset were found to be without the appropriate car or bike insurance during the year.
This could result in cover companies increasing costs for local residents if they feel that the area represents a greater risk.

Dorset Police contact management support officer Nick Power states that the figures are "impressive".
"My message to people driving without insurance is; it is only a matter of time before we catch them. It's completely irresponsible and other drivers are paying for them to do so," remarked the official.
This news comes as statistics released by Experian research show that there has been a drop in cover prices in the final quarter of 2007.
Over the last three months of the year, the company recorded a 0.3 per cent decrease in vehicles insurance costs.
