Take responsibility for vehicle crime, drivers urged

People in the north-east have been reminded that they can help reduce the chances of their vehicle being targeted by criminals, according to a news source in the region.

News Guardian states that Detective Inspector (DI) Paul Young for North Tyneside Area Command has cited "good quality police work" as one reason why crime rates in the region are down.

It may be that as a result car and motorbike insurance policy providers drop their prices if they consider the area to be less of a risk in which to own a vehicle.

But DI Young added that people have a "responsibility for preventing crime" and that they should make sure they deter criminals whenever they have the opportunity.

"Thefts from vehicles can be prevented simply by motorists removing valuables out of sight when they park up," the official remarked.

This comes as Herts 24 reports that authorities in the region have launched the Operation Tarantula initiative in an attempt to cut the number of vehicle crime incidents.

Accompanying the scheme is a high-visibility poster campaign, the local news source adds.
