Christmas drink-drive figures show 11 per cent over limit
Police in Nottinghamshire found more than one in ten of the motorists they tested to be over the limit during a Christmas crackdown on drink-driving.
The constabulary conducted 2,066 tests from December 1st 2007 to January 1st 2008, with 11 per cent caught above the legal level.
Additionally, some 40 drivers were found above the limit in the wake of an accident in 2007 compared to 45 in 2006.
It may be that those found breaking the law struggle to pick up a car or motorbike insurance policy in the future, as cover companies may judge them to be a risk on the road.

Similarly, providers could view the area as safer and drop the cost for local drivers.
According to Nottinghamshire chief constable Steve Green, the statistics justify the body's attempts to cut down on the crime.
He said: "The figures totally vindicate the vigour of our campaign and justify why we will enforce all year round with further campaigns this summer and in December 2008."
Current law in the UK states that motorists cannot take to the road if their system contains 0.8mg alcohol for every 100ml blood.
