Mosque parkers 'are not being dealt with'

People parking illegally around a mosque in east Reading are not being dealt with by council officials, it has been reported.

The Reading Post states that the site's ten spaces are often all taken, meaning that motorists spill onto the Donnington Road and Alexandra Road junction.

However, this could prove problematic as by law the rogue drivers should be issued a parking ticket which could compromise their car or bike insurance policies.

According to neighbourhood watch coordinator for Marlborough Avenue and Elmhurst Road Stephen Cox, this has been ongoing over the last ten years.

"Council parking attendants should be here every Friday preventing parking on the double yellows and all around the crossroads and on the pavements," he said.

The publication added that Mr Cox believes the problem is particularly bad at midday on Friday - the traditional day of worship for Muslims.

Suffolk motorists may soon be paying more to park in the region, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

It states that council officials may be putting up costs in order to make up cash shortfalls.
